Abstract:
Digital cameras have far surpassed film cameras. CMOS technology, with
the pinned-photodiode architecture rivals CCDs for image quality, with
benefits of large-scale integration with signal processing for complete
camera-on-a-chip systems. In this talk I will discuss the signal path from incident
photons to captured electrons (quantum efficiency) and noise including electronic,
statistical and color-space conversion based sources. Photoelectron capture and
channel crosstalk in particular will be discussed with emphasis on numerical
modeling of electron transport in the silicon photodiode region.
